My Approach & Philosophy

Have you ever felt like an outsider in spaces where you thought you would belong?

As a Black, queer, first-generation immigrant woman, I know what it’s like to have your identities judged and unaffirmed. More importantly, I know what it’s like to experience this in settings where you are hoping for unconditional acceptance. I was so excited when I first found a therapist who was a Black woman. I thought, “Here is someone who will finally understand me,” only to be crushed a few weeks later when she made a homophobic remark insinuating that my queerness was a choice. My experience highlights the struggles that many people with multiple marginalized identities face. We often feel like we never truly belong or like we have to leave parts of ourselves behind to fit in with others, even in the spaces where we expect to be accepted.

I am committed to creating an inclusive therapeutic space that is affirming of all identities, cultures, and backgrounds and acknowledges the constraints we face as inhabitants of oppressive systems.

My goal as a therapist is to help you navigate life and find healing the best you can while addressing the impacts of systemic oppression and inequities that you may face. I hope to help you unlearn messages you have internalized throughout your life that may have made you feel unworthy, powerless, or rejected. My therapeutic approach is rooted in Narrative, Person-Centered, and Feminist theory with a trauma-informed lens. I believe that rebuilding a new understanding of yourself outside of what has been forced upon you can help you feel empowered and balanced.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy any and everything creative! I am currently writing a novel and I also enjoy songwriting, makeup, fashion, and cooking. When I’m not enjoying a creative pursuit, you can find me reading or swimming. I also love spending time with my girlfriend, mom, and cat.

You Deserve to Feel Great. I’m Here to Help.
