My Approach & Philosophy
My first two decades of life were spent disconnected. I felt afraid of being seen. I did everything I could to avoid pain and discomfort, using substances and other avoidance strategies to either dull or amplify my experience–anything to take me away from what was real and true. Through addressing childhood trauma, I began to heal my inner child, increasing a sense of safety and self-compassion. I also gained control of my thoughts and emotions, slowly quieting the voice of a shame-inducing inner critic.
Several years later, I still found myself struggling to let go of my addictive behaviors. I was still running from intimacy, connection, and difficult feelings. I was still avoiding my internal experience in so many ways, from believing I should feel differently to drinking myself numb. I finally agreed to be sober and dedicate myself to connection. Through parts work therapy, recovery programs, community, and meditation, I began to shift the habitual patterns of disconnection that my nervous system learned at a young age. I’m still learning to stop that second arrow, but I know now that being right here, no matter what’s happening, is the best way for me to feel fully alive.
Difficulties will always be a part of life, but suffering doesn’t have to be. We can learn to ride the waves, building resilience, compassion, and awareness. We can strengthen our sense of purpose. We can increase our awareness and work toward realizing that we are the ocean itself. Happiness is a tall order. It often feels unattainable because it’s a fleeting experience. But fulfillment, joy, courage, and contentment are deeper internal states that we can cultivate and live from.
I utilize parts work therapy, attachment theory, nervous system regulation skills, and Buddhist teachings to help you through your disconnection strategies and out into the wild potentials of this life. I want to help you quiet shame, deepen self-worth, and move through the world with intention and purpose. I want to help you explore who you really are, change life-long habits, and teach you how to use personal insights in a way that truly creates change. I want to be your co-conspirator in your journey to stay right here.
I’m a member of the LGBTQIA community. I’m sex-positive, trans-affirming, and kink and poly-aware. I have the most experience working with the LGBTQIA community and those suffering from sexual trauma histories.
You’ll find me writing and reading speculative fiction, dancing in my living room, listening to mental health podcasts, spending time in nature, making mediocre art, and hanging out with my furry friends.
