Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Ciera (she/her).

Have you ever felt like you’ve been carrying or avoiding something for so long that you’ve forgotten what it feels like to simply be? Maybe you’ve become the person everyone depends on. Maybe you’re constantly overthinking, questioning yourself, or wondering why your body never seems to relax. Maybe you’re grieving, navigating trauma, adjusting to parenthood, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself.

Whatever brought you here, you don’t have to carry it or continue avoiding it alone.
Looking back, I think I’ve always been drawn to the stories beneath the surface. Even as a child, I found myself noticing the hurt hidden behind humor and listening for the words that weren’t being said. That curiosity and deep respect for people’s resilience are what ultimately led me to become a therapist.

For more than a decade, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals, couples, parents, and families through community mental health, maternal health, early childhood systems, and family support. Those experiences continue to shape how I understand healing today. I’ve learned that our struggles rarely exist in isolation; they’re influenced by our relationships, identities, communities, and the systems we’ve had to navigate.

Today, I primarily work with adults navigating complex trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, identity development, and relationship challenges. A meaningful part of my work is supporting individuals through pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, birth trauma, reproductive loss, parenting, and the many transitions these seasons of life can bring. My background in birth support, lactation, and family-centered care continues to shape the way I hold space for these deeply personal experiences.

Another meaningful part of my practice is working with neurodivergent adults, including those discovering ADHD or Autism later in life. So many people have spent years believing they were “too much,” “not enough,” or somehow doing life wrong. One of the greatest privileges of this work is helping clients replace self-judgment with self-understanding and reconnect with the strengths that have been there all along.

I don’t believe therapy is about fixing who you are. I’ve come to believe that many of us spend years running from ourselves, not because we want to, but because survival once required it. Therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with your body’s innate wisdom, and understand yourself with greater compassion. Healing isn’t about becoming someone new; it’s about returning to yourself.

My Commitment as a Therapist

As a Black woman clinician, I understand how powerful it is to feel truly seen, to have someone recognize not only your story, but the context in which it was written. That understanding continues to shape how I show up as a therapist. My hope is to create a culturally responsive, affirming space where you don’t have to shrink yourself, perform, or have all the answers. You are welcome exactly as you are.

My approach is relational, eclectic, and trauma-informed, integrating EMDR, attachment theory, parts work, mindfulness, somatic awareness, and cognitive and relational therapies in ways that fit you.  I see therapy as a collaborative process because I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you with curiosity, compassion, and care as we discover what healing looks like for you.

In our work together, there is room for tears, laughter, silence, difficult conversations, celebration, and moments when words simply don’t come. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where your whole self is welcomed and where healing can exist alongside rest, play, meaningful connection, and the quiet moments that remind you what it feels like to be fully alive.

Life Beyond Therapy

Outside of the therapy room, you’ll usually find me spending time in nature, riding my bike, caring for my ever-growing collection of houseplants, discovering a new favorite vegan snack (I am a Taurus), or attempting to improve my roller-skating skills. I genuinely believe healing happens outside the therapy room, too in the relationships we nurture, the places that ground us, the moments of laughter we didn’t expect, and the simple experiences that help us feel connected to ourselves again.

If you’ve read this far, perhaps something here resonated with you. I’d be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.

As a Psych NP in the Lake Norman area, I can’t say enough good things about this practice. I often send my Asheville clients their way. Time and again my clients share how comfortable they felt and how well-matched they were with their therapist.

How Do I Discover What My Insurance Will Cover?

To find out what your insurance may cover, contact your insurance and ask if you have out-of-network mental health coverage.

You may also want to mention the type of license that I have to ensure services with my type of credential are covered.

Other things you may want to ask about are:

  • What your deductible is
  • What your co-insurance payment will be
  • How many visits you get per year
  • If you need authorization for your visits
  • Details on how to submit a superbill

Contact me if you would like more guidance on how to figure out what your insurance will cover.

Every client will receive a Good Faith Estimate. The Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for your health care needs for an item or service. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute (appeal) the bill.

The Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and therefore does not require you to obtain the items or services provided by Resilient Mind Counseling PLLC. The foundation of a good therapeutic relationship between a client and therapist is the client’s right to autonomy and self-determination. Therefore, you (as the client) have the right to terminate services at any time.

If you are billed for more than the Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

You may contact the health care provider or facility listed to let them know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask them to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is financial assistance available.

You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill.

There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on the Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount.

To learn more about disputes and get a form to start the process, go to www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

We can provide a monthly superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.

To cancel a scheduled Counseling session, a minimum of 24 hours in advance of your session is required. If prior and timely notification is not given, you will be charged the full session fee for the missed session.
