Who Am I?
I followed the rules the best I could but the rules just couldn’t turn me into who I was supposed to be. I spent years trying to fit into that proverbial box all the while fighting feelings of confusion and disappointment. Connecting to the authentic me was not just an acute miracle but also an ongoing journey that’s been- well a lot of things! My journey is still unfolding which is both amazing and daunting.
I’ve worked in community mental health, residential treatment, inpatient settings and on a gender medicine team. I have significant experience with working with the LGBTQ+ population- particularly gender diverse folks as well as those that identify as being neurodiverse. I identify as a queer feminist that believes in the strength of community. I believe in therapy and the change it can bring, I’ve experienced it myself!
You might be carrying the weight of expectations and beliefs about yourself that you didn’t even decide to pick up. Maybe you’re feeling frustrated with relationships- how you show up, how you react? Maybe there are certain aspects of your life that feel overwhelming and you’re not sure why or what to do? I work well with people that have experienced trauma (including religious and relational trauma), addiction, depression, attachment wounds, anxiety. These are all things that disrupt our abilities to thrive or even function at times.
I see my role in your journey as someone that can ask the questions that help you move toward your goals and that provides the warm, safe place that enables you to be vulnerable and experience growth. I tend to utilize IFS as I’ve found it helpful to give us space to see ourselves with compassion and to address the patterns that have impacted how we move about the world. There is no one size fits all- I use different modalities and some folks get therapy homework because it works for them and other people don’t.
When I’m not working I’m reading, spending time with my family and friends, listening to music (preferably live), drinking coffee, and trying to find time to play Dungeons and Dragons. Wishing you the best on your journey!
