My Approach & Philosophy
I started having panic attacks when I was serving in the military. At the time, I didn’t have the experience to know I was suffering from severe anxiety, I just knew something was wrong. I couldn’t control the panic no matter how hard I tried. I started to isolate myself from my friends and colleagues. I was scared. Finally, I confided in a close friend who encouraged me to consider mental health counseling. I was a little reluctant at first. In my roles as an active duty service member and an African-American woman, I was discouraged from openly discussing any mental health issues I was experiencing. My first counselor was an African-American woman who helped me resolve and work through that trauma and those stigmas and I have been an advocate for mental health ever since!
I emerged from that difficult time with a new sense of purpose, I completed my degree in Social Work and became a therapist. I am a firm believer that therapy works when you do the work! Even though it can be REALLY hard some days, the goal is to not give up! The good news is that you do not have to face these struggles alone: WE will do the work together! This is a partnership and I aim to support you in finding and building your better self!
My therapeutic approach is informed by my own life experiences. Through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy and solutions-focused therapy, I am able to support individuals, families and couples. I specialize in providing services to the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, couples, young and middle-aged adults. I specialize in treating with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship conflicts, and more. My goal is to provide a safe space for individuals to discuss their concerns in a nonjudgmental and supportive environment.
