Growing up in the rolling hills of Appalachia, I learned from a young age that it is important to have your “people.” Living in Appalachia with intersectional identities I’ve also learned that it is hard to find your “place to belong.”
As a gender expansive person, chronically (Ch)ill, Neurodivergent, Multi-Ethnic, Indigenous person, I have found, and still find, that people that will show up for me. There are people that will show up for you (The Real You). Let’s find them together.
Sometimes this looks like hour-long phone calls at 11:00pm, therapy twice a week, wiping tears with dirty laundry (no, that wasn’t underwear), and waiting for 4:00am to become 6:00am and doing the best you can with the day that follows.
Sometimes this looks like playing the piano in public because the seat was open, decorating for holidays, tattoos, coffee, and, oh-so-much laughter.
